WINTER READING CHALLENGE 2021

**PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING RESPONSES**

All you have to do is choose a goal (we recommend a minimum of three books) and then read that many books by the end of the challenge.

The challenge will start on Monday the 15th November 2021 and end on Saturday the 15th January 2022. As it’s over the holidays, why not choose a religious-themed book to read?

Use the form to the right to log, rate and review the books you’ve read. Your name will enter a raffle to win a prize. The more books you’ve read, the more chance you will receive a prize!

For year 7s, your Bookbuzz book will also count when it arrived.

Good luck!

Miss Reuben

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE 2021

**PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING RESPONSES**

We are working alongside Brightlingsea Library to bring you the Summer Reading Challenge, 2021!

Join the Wild World Heroes for the Summer Reading Challenge and discover how you can make a difference to the environment too.

The Summer Reading Challenge team are teaming up with WWF for a very special nature-themed Challenge that will inspire you to stand up for the planet. This begins on Saturday 10th July, so get ready! This will be running until September, so you have all summer to read as many books by authors, or that include characters, who are your Wild World Heroes.

As the world begins to open, please make use of your local libraries to keep them alive!

Keep a log of them on our Google Form (to the right) and submit each time you have completed a book.

SPRING READING CHALLENGE 2021

This reading challenge focuses on diversifying your reading between the months of February and May 2021.

Starting on the 1st February 2021 until the 31st May 2021, choose 4 genres you never or rarely read from the list in the image, and spend 4 months (1 month per genre) reading these books.

For books by BAME authors, please check out the Recommended Reading page. This has numerous recommended books linked to topics you can read for this challenge.

It may be challenging to find a book you’ll like outside of your comfort zone, so be sure to check out websites for recommended books. Start with the websites below:

WINTER READING CHALLENGE 2020

**PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING RESPONSES**

We are delighted to launch the Winter Reading Challenge 2020 at The Colne.

Starting on the 1st December and ending on the 15th January, the aim is to read as many books as you can in this 6 week span. We recommend choosing 3 books; why not make them Christmas themed? If you're stuck, go to the Recommended Reading page to explore themes and books you may be interested in. Alternatively, you can go to the Linked Reading page to see what books you can read linked to the subjects you enjoy studying at school!

Use the link below to log your books as you participate in this challenge. All names will enter a prize draw for a worthy reward of their efforts. The more books you read, the more chance you have of winning!

I look forward to seeing what you read.

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE 2020

We are delighted to introduce our Summer Reading Challenge for all students at The Colne school.

Research shows that reading for pleasure has a significant impact on academic progress and attainment across the curriculum, and reading during the summer can aid this progress further. Reading is also great for developing empathy, boosting confidence, and enhancing creativity.

The Summer Reading Challenge is an initiative we are offering to all Colne students. The goal is to read 6 books that relate to 6 different topics. Each book can only be counted towards one topic, even if it fits into multiple. Once a student has read a book, they can give the book a star rating on the ticket provided (please see the attached file) and fill in the Summer Reading Challenge Log on Google Forms to let us know their thoughts and opinions. Upon our return to school, students will receive 25 ARK points per book read, or 200 if all 6 books have been read. Names will also enter a raffle to receive a reward for their efforts; the more books read, the more their name is entered in the raffle. We will draw raffle tickets in late September and these students will be a part of a prize event to reward their achievements.

Please note that the recommended list is a guide for identifying books. If you know of a book that fits into that topic, this may be read instead.

Audiobooks can also count for the challenge. Please see that one of the topics is 'a book your parent/carer has read', so you have the opportunity to reread a favourite of yours with your child.
